Madelaine Currelly says a free upcoming event in Cobourg could help reshape how communities support children and prepare for the future.
The Community Training and Development Centre chief executive officer has organized an Oct. 28 session on early brain development, creativity and economic growth as part of the organization’s 30th anniversary celebrations.
The event runs from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Best Western Plus Cobourg Inn and Convention Centre and will bring together six Canadian and international experts, including keynote speaker Dr. Dan Wuori.
Currelly says research shows the first three years of life are particularly important for brain development, with nurturing relationships and supportive environments playing a major role in a child’s future.
The session is intended for parents, grandparents, educators, health-care professionals and others who work with or care for children. Organizers have also arranged child care for in-person attendees, while several hundred people have registered to watch online.
Currelly says understanding early childhood development is increasingly important in an era of rapid technological change, including artificial intelligence. She believes supporting children’s creativity, empathy and problem-solving skills will help preserve essential human qualities.
The free event is being organized with YMCA Northumberland, Northumberland County, the City of Kingston’s economic development division and Norland University of Early Childhood. Registration is available at ctdclearningplace.com.
