Cobourg has approved an interim control bylaw that will pause certain development considerations while the town studies potential impacts on its four Heritage Conservation Districts and individually designated heritage properties.
The study will examine how growth pressures could affect factors including building height, density, massing, lot patterns, landscaping, setbacks and parking. It will also look at policy gaps, particularly requests for greater height and density in or near established neighbourhoods.
The municipality says the work will help guide future policies governing development within the study area, including architectural standards, permitted densities, setbacks, parking and how new projects relate to existing heritage areas.
The bylaw took effect Sept. 23 and will remain in place for one year. Council can repeal it or extend it for an additional year.
Appeals can be filed with the municipal clerk by 4:30 p.m. Nov. 2. An $1,100 appeal fee applies.
