It was a summer of remarkable productions at the Capitol theatre in Port Hope! Artistic Director Rob Kempson says it was the largest summer of programming the theatre has put on.
A lot of that has to do with an initiative at the theatre to get productions from local artists onto the stage. Kempson says the Creators Unit has brought out the talent from the region.
An upcoming production came out of that initiative and will play at the theatre this month called “I’m Every Woman the Whitney Houston Songbook.” It’s the story of Taylor Lovelace, the creator of the play and who Kempson calls a once in a lifetime voice, told through the songs of Whitney Houston.
Kempson says the story is not just a concert performance of Whitney Houston’s songs, but tells an inspiring story of Taylor’s life through those songs.
Kempson says the songs of Whitney Houston usually feature themes of heartbreak and love affairs, but Taylor has interpreted those songs to fit her story.
Backing up Taylor in the show is a six piece band and two backup singers to bring the full stage experience. I’m Every Woman the Whitney Houston Songbook runs October 22 – 25 at the Capitol Theatre in Port Hope.
