Norm Orviss is running for Ward 1 councillor in Port Hope, bringing a 30-year career in corporate and operational management to his campaign. A father and grandfather with roots in the area, Orviss says he wants to serve the community by listening to residents, being accessible and making practical, informed decisions.
Priorities and Experience
Orviss says his professional experience with several Fortune 500 companies included managing budgets and resources, leading teams and overseeing complex projects. He says those roles reinforced the importance of careful planning, clear communication and responsible decision-making.
Among his priorities are ensuring transparency and local representation on major projects, including the proposed Wesleyville Nuclear project and the long-term PHAI/CNL agreement. He also wants to address everyday concerns such as reliable cell service, neighbourhood parks, housing, senior health care and keeping the Archives in Port Hope.
Orviss says economic development is another priority. He wants to grow Port Hope’s tax base without increasing the burden on individual taxpayers by supporting small businesses, manufacturing, responsible growth, tourism, filming opportunities and agri-tourism.
Why Port Hope
With family roots in the area, Orviss says he values the people, neighbourhoods and rural communities that make Port Hope home. Now retired, he says he can dedicate himself to public service full time and bring a calm, practical approach to council.
