Joel Scott has been part of the Cobourg community for more than 25 years and brings a background in local media, business and the charitable sector to his campaign for town council. He spent 16 years in local radio, including with Star 93.3 and Classic Rock 107.9, and now serves as Director of Donor Relations and Communications for Community Care Northumberland and the Ed’s House Foundation. He is also a licensed mortgage broker.
Priorities and Experience
Scott says his campaign is focused on community safety and security, homelessness and housing, responsible economic growth, municipal finances and transparent governance. He wants to improve coordination between local services responding to homelessness, addiction and mental health challenges while supporting consistent enforcement in public spaces.
He also wants Cobourg to prepare for potential regional growth by planning for infrastructure, housing, transportation and municipal services. On taxation, Scott says every municipal dollar should be carefully reviewed and proposes greater resident involvement in the annual budget process. He also supports clearer public reporting on council decisions and municipal spending.
Why Cobourg
Scott says his connection to Cobourg has been built through decades of working with local businesses, community organizations and residents. His campaign describes collaboration and community service as central to his approach, with an emphasis on listening to residents and maintaining open communication.
