Max LeMarchant is running for Mayor of Cobourg, saying his long involvement in the community has given him an understanding of the challenges facing the town. He says he believes his skills and experience can help address some of those issues.
LeMarchant says he had not originally planned to enter politics, but felt the circumstances in Cobourg created a reason for him to step forward. He describes his goal as helping create a well-managed community.
Priorities
LeMarchant identifies quality-of-life issues and safety as his top priorities. He says issues involving homelessness and street homelessness need to be addressed, while also pointing to Cobourg’s property taxes as an area of concern for homeowners and businesses.
LeMarchant also says Cobourg has historically had a high tax rate and argues that taxes have become a significant concern for residents and businesses. He says bringing those costs under control would be another primary focus if elected.
What Sets Him Apart
LeMarchant says his professional background in the private sector has involved community building, large projects and large budgets. He says that experience has also required him to work directly with different levels of government and government agencies.
LeMarchant describes himself as a home builder and community builder, and says he believes those skills would be useful in municipal government. He says his experience working with municipal and provincial governments has given him familiarity with the processes involved in large-scale projects.

LeMarchant says he values Cobourg’s history and the character that comes with being a small town. He says the community has retained a distinct identity that makes it a special place to live.
LeMarchant says he is one of the Cobourgians who feels strongly connected to the town. He has lived in Cobourg for the majority of his life, and says his family also lives in the community.
He says Cobourg is at a pivotal point, with both challenges and potential ahead, and believes the community needs to establish a vision for its future.
