Families and caregivers are being invited to an Indigenous Story Walk and restoration planting event at Northumberland County Forest on Oct. 8.
The free event will run from 10 a.m. to noon at the Carstairs Trailhead and include Indigenous storytelling, outdoor activities and teachings about the connection between people and the land. Participants will also help plant trees and native species to improve habitat and biodiversity.
The event is being held with support from the TD Friends of the Environment Foundation and in partnership with Alderville First Nation, Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag Child & Family Services and EarlyON Child and Family Centres.
Organizers say the event will provide families with an opportunity to explore the forest while learning about Indigenous perspectives, healthy ecosystems and environmental stewardship. Planting materials and activity supplies will be provided, and attendees are encouraged to dress for outdoor conditions.
