Northumberland Hills Hospital hosted its first Experience Symposium on Sept. 16, bringing together health-care professionals and volunteers from across Northumberland, along with provincial and international leaders.
The event at the Best Western Plus Cobourg Inn and Convention Centre focused on improving the human experience in health care, including the use of patient and caregiver feedback to guide decisions and service improvements.
Speakers included health-care safety specialist Claudette Moulton, HIROC general counsel Gordon Slemko and Ontario Caregiver Organization executive Alison Kilbourn. Panel discussions examined the use of experience data and the role of volunteers.
NHH officials also highlighted the hospital’s Patient and Family Advisory Council, which is marking 10 years, and the development of its Experience Framework.
NHH CEO Susan Walsh said the hospital’s People First approach is intended to keep patients, caregivers, providers and volunteers at the centre of decision-making.
