Northumberland OPP have laid charges following three separate investigations involving fraud, a stolen vehicle and historical sexual assaults.
Fraud investigation
Police say they received a report on July 27 that a vehicle had been entered on County Road 30 in Trent Hills two days earlier.
A debit card was reportedly stolen from the vehicle and subsequently used to make fraudulent purchases at businesses in Havelock.
Officers identified and arrested an individual on August 20.
Steven Lafonte, 66, of Havelock-Belmont-Methuen Township, faces three counts of possession of credit card data and three counts of fraud under $5,000.
He is scheduled to appear in Cobourg in November.
Stolen vehicle
On August 23 at about 8:30 p.m., an officer conducting patrols on Highway 401 westbound in Hamilton Township was alerted by an Automated Licence Plate Recognition system that a vehicle had been reported stolen.
Police stopped the vehicle and arrested one person. The vehicle had recently been reported stolen in Quebec.
Thi Kien, 44, of North York, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000 and theft of a motor vehicle.
Kien is scheduled to appear in Cobourg in September.
Sexual assault investigation
Northumberland OPP also investigated reported historical sexual assaults that allegedly occurred between the summer of 2024 and March 2026 at an address in Hamilton Township.
Police say the accused and victim were known to each other during the period in which the incidents were reported.
The Northumberland OPP Crime Unit began an investigation after receiving a report on June 28. One person was taken into custody on August 22.
A 20-year-old woman from Oshawa has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference.
She is scheduled to appear in Cobourg in September. Her name is being withheld to protect the identity of the victim.
