Hamilton Township will not have a race for mayor or deputy mayor in the 2026 municipal election.
The township has announced its certified candidates following the close of nominations on Friday, August 21.
Municipal Clerk Daphne Livingstone reviewed the nomination papers and confirmed Scott Jibb has been acclaimed as mayor, while Larry Williamson has been acclaimed as deputy mayor.
With no opposing candidates filing for either position, Jibb and Williamson will return to their respective offices without appearing in a contested race.
Five candidates have been certified for councillor: Bruce Buttar, Jay Chatten, John Davison, Rob MacArthur and Patricia “Pat” McCourt.
Ontario’s municipal and school board election day is Monday, October 26. In Hamilton Township, voting will open Friday, October 16 and continue until 8 p.m. on election day.
Eligible residents will be able to cast their ballots through secure internet or telephone voting. Voter Assistance Centres will also be available during the voting period for residents who would like help casting their ballots.
Voter Instruction Letters will be mailed to eligible electors ahead of the voting period and will include a personal identification number, along with instructions for voting online or by telephone.
Residents are encouraged to ensure their voter information is current by contacting the township’s Clerk’s Office.
