Northumberland OPP have charged an inmate following an assault at Warkworth Institution in the Municipality of Brighton.
Police say they received a report on July 11 involving two inmates at the correctional facility.
The victim was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening.
Following an investigation, Northumberland OPP charged a 38-year-old man on August 19 with:
Assault causing bodily harm
Assault with a weapon
Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
Uttering threats
The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg in October.
The OPP says it works alongside Correctional Service Canada to help maintain safety and security at correctional institutions and in surrounding communities.
That partnership includes efforts aimed at preventing contraband from entering institutions, investigating incidents when they occur, and enforcing applicable laws.
The OPP and Correctional Service Canada say they remain committed to protecting staff, inmates and the public by addressing activities that threaten institutional safety.
