A 32-year-old Cobourg man is facing multiple charges following an investigation into a collision in the town’s downtown area.
Cobourg Police responded to the area of King and Church streets at approximately 12:45 a.m. on August 15 for a reported collision.
Police say their investigation determined a vehicle had struck three bollards before continuing through the downtown area in what investigators described as a dangerous manner while disobeying road signs.
Witnesses reported seeing the driver leave the vehicle and flee the scene on foot.
Officers searched the area with assistance from the Cobourg Police Service Canine Unit but were unable to locate the driver at the time. The vehicle was subsequently towed.
On August 16, police arrested the accused.
He has been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, mischief over $5,000, interfering with the lawful use of property, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, failing to remain at the scene of a collision and interfering with traffic.
The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in court on November 18.
The allegations have not been proven in court.
