Cobourg Police say five Cobourg residents are facing charges following several separate incidents over the weekend, including alleged breaches of court-ordered conditions and alcohol-related offences.
Police say a 42-year-old Cobourg woman was arrested around 11:50 p.m. on August 7 after officers on general patrol observed her in the area of Queen Street and McGill Street. According to police, the woman was subject to a release order prohibiting her from being on the property.
She was charged with failing to comply with a release order and failing to comply with probation. Police say she was held for a bail hearing and subsequently remanded into custody.
In a separate incident around 1:30 a.m. on August 8, officers responded to the area of Nickerson Drive and D’Arcy Street for a reported disturbance. A Cobourg resident was charged with public intoxication.
Later that day, around 7:50 p.m., police say officers on general patrol near Albert Street and Second Street located a group of people with open alcohol containers. Three Cobourg residents were charged with having open alcohol in a public place.
The final incident occurred shortly after midnight on August 9.
Police say officers on general patrol spotted a 35-year-old Cobourg man biking eastbound on King Street East. Officers were aware the man was under release orders requiring him to remain at his residence.
According to police, the man fled when officers attempted to conduct a bicycle stop. Police say a short foot pursuit followed before the man was arrested without further incident.
Officers allegedly located a quantity of suspected cocaine upon his arrest.
The man was charged with failing to comply with a release order, failing to stop for police as a cyclist and possession of a controlled substance — cocaine. Police say he was held for a bail hearing and subsequently remanded into custody.
