For Christina Bergmann, running for mayor isn’t just about politics; it’s about protecting the community she’s proud to call home.
Bergmann, who returned to Brighton three years ago after spending time away, says the community’s small-town atmosphere, proximity to Presqu’ile Provincial Park and welcoming residents convinced her it was the place she wanted to build her family’s future.
She says that connection to the community ultimately inspired her decision to enter the mayoral race.
While Bergmann brings experience as a professional project manager, she says what’s more important is having a genuine investment in Brighton and its future. She wants to see the community continue to grow while preserving the qualities that attracted so many people to the municipality in the first place.
Outside of work, Bergmann says she enjoys taking part in community life. Her family has volunteered at the Brighton Legion’s Christmas dinner, she’s served as a Presqu’ile marsh monitor, attends the Wednesday Music in the Park series, participates in local car shows with her partner and curls in the community. She also makes a point of shopping locally and getting to know downtown business owners.
If elected, Bergmann says her guiding principle would be protecting Brighton’s identity.
She says that means balancing new development with the character residents value, supporting local businesses, encouraging tourism and ensuring community amenities keep pace with growth.
For Bergmann, though, the campaign comes back to something much simpler than policy.
She says Brighton still reminds her of the community she knew growing up.
Bergmann says that’s what she hopes to preserve—not just for longtime residents, but for the families who choose to call Brighton home in the years ahead.
