For more than two decades, the Brighton Rotary Street Dance has brought residents together for a night of live music, food, and dancing.
The annual event began in 2003 and has grown into a summer tradition in Brighton, with Main Street closed for the evening to create space for people to gather, enjoy entertainment, and celebrate the community.
Brighton Rotary Club member Dan Thompson says the event has always attracted people of all ages.
As the night continues, the event shifts toward an adult crowd, with attendees enjoying refreshments and taking to the dance floor.
This year’s entertainment lineup includes Bentwood Rocker and Wicklow, a group that has performed in the area before and has become popular with local audiences.
The event will include a licensed area operated by Rotary, along with food available from Harry’s Hots. The Rotary Club says the evening is designed to offer something for everyone, from families attending early in the night to those staying later for the music and dancing.
To accommodate the event, Main Street will be closed between Kingsley Avenue and Prince Edward Street, with traffic redirected around the area.
While the Rotary Street Dance began as a community gathering, it has grown into an important fundraiser supporting the Brighton Rotary Club’s local work.
Thompson says the event was originally focused on bringing people together, with fundraising becoming a larger part of the evening over time.
The Rotary Street Dance continues to offer a night of entertainment while helping fund future community initiatives in Brighton.
