Golfers, local businesses and community supporters are being invited to tee off for affordable homeownership at the Play to Build Golf Tournament.
The tournament takes place August 25 at 11 a.m. at Kawartha Golf Club in support of Habitat for Humanity Peterborough and Kawartha Region.
The event is being held in partnership with Kitchens Depot and will feature 18 holes of golf, contests, prizes, sponsor activations and opportunities to learn more about Habitat’s affordable homeownership program.
The day begins with coffee and a spit roast lunch from Chemong Lodge, followed by the tournament. Participants will then gather for a taco dinner and awards celebration.
Kitchens Depot will host a $25,000 hole in one competition on the 18th hole, with the prize going toward a dream kitchen renovation.
Funds raised through the tournament will support Habitat PKR’s affordable homeownership program, which helps local families purchase homes through geared to income mortgages with no down payment required.
Habitat PKR says the model gives homeowners greater stability while helping them build equity and a stronger future for their families.
The organization is working toward creating at least 149 new affordable homeownership opportunities across Peterborough, the Kawarthas and Haliburton County over the next three years.
The first three homes are already underway in Norwood. The homes will support three local families, including a three generation family of women, a single mother raising two teenagers and a young single income family with two children.
Individual golfer tickets are $250 per person and include tournament entry, coffee, lunch, dinner, contests and prizes.
Habitat PKR says additional sponsorship opportunities remain available for businesses and organizations.
Since 2002, the organization says it has helped more than 100 local families achieve affordable homeownership.
