The Canadian Fire Fighters Museum is celebrating another successful fundraising event after this year’s annual Walk and Run attracted participants from across Ontario.
Organizer Rod Simpson says the event raised more than $4,000 in support of the museum’s ongoing work preserving and sharing the stories of Canadian firefighters.
More than 130 people registered to take part in this year’s event, with participants travelling from communities across the province. Firefighters representing numerous fire halls joined local residents, families and supporters for the day of fitness and fundraising.
“It was great to see so many families and individuals enjoying the day,” Simpson said in thanking participants and community supporters. “We saw lots of smiling faces running and walking.”
For Simpson, one of the most memorable moments came during the five-kilometre event.
“A highlight for myself was watching those daring individuals who took on the challenge of doing the 5K in bunker gear,” he said.
The fundraiser supports the Canadian Fire Fighters Museum in Cobourg as it continues rebuilding and expanding its exhibits following the move from its former location. Money raised helps the museum preserve artifacts and share the history and contributions of Canadian firefighters with future generations.
Simpson also thanked volunteers, sponsors, participants and media partners for helping make the event another success.
The Walk and Run has become an annual tradition, bringing together firefighters and community members while raising awareness and financial support for the museum’s ongoing work.
