A fundraising campaign has been launched to help return the body of a recent Loyalist College graduate to his family in India after he drowned at Beavermead Park in Peterborough.
Organizers say 23-year-old Kamal moved to Canada from Haryana, India, in December 2023 to study at Loyalist College. After completing his studies, he recently received his work permit and began a new career as a welder, following months of working as an Amazon delivery driver while establishing himself in Canada.
According to the fundraiser, Kamal drowned while on a camping trip with friends at Beavermead Park. Emergency crews responded to the incident Friday evening, but he was later pronounced dead at Peterborough Regional Health Centre.
The campaign, created by family friend Mansimrat on behalf of Kamal’s family, aims to cover the costs of repatriating his body to Haryana, where his parents and loved ones can hold funeral services according to their traditions. Donations will also help pay for international transportation, documentation and other funeral-related expenses.
