Cobourg Police laid charges against three people in separate investigations over the Canada Day holiday, including alleged trespassing, a break-and-enter, and a single-vehicle collision.
Police say a 38-year-old Cobourg man and a 39-year-old Cobourg woman were arrested after officers responded to a report of two people trespassing on a property near Division Street and Spencer Street on June 30.
According to police, officers observed the pair discarding items as they approached. The investigation led to the seizure of break-in tools, about 22 grams of illicit cannabis, and a quantity of suspected fentanyl.
The man is charged with engaging in prohibited activity on premises, possession of illicit cannabis, possession of break-in instruments and two counts of failing to comply with probation. The woman is charged with engaging in prohibited activity on premises, possession of a Schedule I substance and failing to comply with probation.
In a separate case, Peter James Munro, 36, of Cobourg, is charged after police investigated the theft of copper wire from a business near McGuire and Ontario Streets. Police allege surveillance video identified the suspect after someone climbed a fence and removed copper wire from the property overnight. Munro is charged with break and enter, possession of property obtained by crime, two counts of failing to comply with probation and possession of fentanyl. He was remanded into custody following a show cause hearing.
Meanwhile, police say a 27-year-old Cobourg woman was charged with careless driving after a vehicle left the roadway at D’Arcy and Kerr Streets, striking a stop sign and a communications box. An approved screening device registered a warn-range result, resulting in a seven-day roadside driver’s licence suspension.
