Longtime Cobourg resident and community advocate Joel Scott has officially announced his candidacy for Cobourg Town Council in the 2026 municipal election.
Scott says his campaign will focus on community safety, economic development, and what he describes as collaborative and respectful local governance as Cobourg prepares for continued regional growth.
Many residents will recognize Scott from his 16 years working in local radio, including as Operations Manager and Program Director at Star 93.3 and Classic Rock 107.9, where he was involved in community fundraising efforts, local programming, and support for regional organizations and events.
Following his broadcasting career, Scott worked in the mortgage and financial sector before moving into the charitable sector. He currently serves as Director of Donor Relations with Community Care Northumberland and Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre Foundation.
In announcing his campaign, Scott described himself as a “connector” who believes the best community decisions come through collaboration rather than division.
Beyond his professional work, Scott has spent years volunteering with local sports organizations including hockey, lacrosse, baseball, and soccer. He has also served with YMCA Northumberland, Northumberland Rotary Sunrise, and has supported numerous community events and organizations including the Cobourg Business Achievement Awards and the Cobourg and District Sports Hall of Fame.
Scott says Cobourg is entering what he called a period of “generational opportunity and growth” and that he wants to help ensure the town is prepared for long term success while maintaining quality of life for residents.
Scott joins a growing list of candidates either officially filing nomination papers or publicly declaring intentions to run ahead of the October 26 municipal election.
