Several people are facing charges following two separate investigations by Cobourg police involving a traffic stop and a violent stolen bicycle incident.
Police say officers conducted a traffic stop Thursday afternoon involving a driver allegedly prohibited from operating a vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, a 34 year old Hamilton Township man was arrested and charged with operation while prohibited along with several alleged breaches of probation, undertaking, and release order conditions.
Police also arrested a 42 year old Whitby woman who was allegedly prohibited from communicating with or being near the driver under existing court ordered conditions. She faces multiple charges including failing to comply with an undertaking and release orders as well as mischief.
Police say the driver was later released while the passenger was remanded into custody. The vehicle involved was impounded for 45 days.
Meanwhile, Cobourg police are also investigating a stolen bicycle incident that escalated into an alleged assault Friday morning.
Police say a complainant located a bicycle reported stolen earlier in the day near West Pebble Beach and Hibernia Street before confronting the suspect.
Investigators allege the confrontation escalated and the complainant was assaulted with rocks and a pocketknife, suffering minor injuries requiring hospital treatment.
Police later arrested a 35 year old Cobourg resident in the downtown core.
He faces numerous charges including assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon, uttering threats, theft under 5 thousand dollars, possession of property obtained by crime, and several counts of failing to comply with an undertaking.
The accused was remanded into custody.
Cobourg police are reminding residents not to confront suspected offenders and instead contact police directly, warning situations can escalate quickly and pose safety risks.
