Northumberland County says a second family physician has committed to practicing locally through the region’s Primary Care Recruitment Initiative.
County officials announced Thursday that Dr. Jane Iyobebe will begin practicing with the Lakeview Family Health Team as of June 1, primarily serving patients through the organization’s Colborne offices.
The county says the new practice will help improve access to primary care services in east Northumberland where demand for family physicians continues growing.
Dr. Iyobebe will build her patient roster using the provincial Health Care Connect wait list, with eligible patients being contacted directly through the office.
County Physician Recruitment Specialist Paula Mason says recruiting a second physician within months of launching the initiative demonstrates the value of a coordinated regional approach to healthcare recruitment.
Officials say the initiative, launched in September 2025, focuses on attracting physicians and nurse practitioners through partnerships, recruitment fairs, medical education opportunities and local community outreach.
Originally from Nigeria, Dr. Iyobebe brings more than a decade of family medicine experience and was first introduced to Northumberland during a clinical placement.
In a release, she said the welcoming atmosphere, opportunity to build long term patient relationships and family oriented lifestyle helped influence the decision to relocate.
Warden Bob Crate called the recruitment another important milestone in efforts to improve local healthcare access.
Northumberland County says residents still seeking a local family doctor or nurse practitioner are encouraged to register through the province’s Health Care Connect system.
Officials also noted residents can remain attached to an existing physician outside the region while waiting to be matched with a local provider.
