Northumberland OPP is recognizing the work of victim support workers, volunteers and community partners during Victims and Survivors of Crime Week.
The awareness week runs from May 10 to 16 across Ontario and focuses on supporting victims and survivors while highlighting services available to people impacted by crime.
Police say OPP officers often work closely with Victim Services personnel and community organizations to provide trauma informed support during difficult situations.
According to the OPP, those partnerships help ensure support continues beyond the initial police response and assists victims and families as they navigate recovery and access available services.
As part of this year’s recognition efforts, Central Region OPP and community partners are acknowledging individuals and organizations that have made meaningful contributions to supporting victims and strengthening communities.
An OPP contact tells MBC media that 19 individuals and one business have been nominated for recognition this year across OPP Central Region.
Police say the annual recognition highlights the importance of victim centred policing and the role community organizations play in helping people move forward after crime.
The OPP is encouraging residents seeking support to connect with local Victim Services organizations or access information through Ontario’s victim services resources online.
Victims and Survivors of Crime Week is held annually across Canada to raise awareness about issues facing victims and survivors while promoting services, supports and community partnerships aimed at recovery and safety.
