The Municipality of Port Hope is moving ahead with a major infrastructure upgrade project along Victoria Street South and Toronto Road.
Municipal officials say Henderson Construction has been awarded the contract for the Victoria Street Reconstruction and Toronto Road Watermain Project, with work expected to begin May 19 and continue through the end of November.
The project area stretches along Toronto Road and Victoria Street South, from Fraser Street to the southern end of Victoria Street South.
The work will include replacing underground infrastructure such as watermains, sanitary sewers, and storm sewer systems. Surface improvements will include curb and sidewalk installation, asphalt paving, line painting, landscaping, and adjustments to storm drains and maintenance holes.
Officials say lane closures along Toronto Road and a full closure of Victoria Street South are expected beginning June 1.
The municipality notes that residential growth over the past two decades has increased traffic pressures in the area, creating the need for upgrades to both the roadway and aging underground infrastructure.
Municipal staff are currently working with Henderson Construction and engineering firm CIMA+ to finalize the construction schedule, with additional timeline details expected in the coming weeks.
Residents and businesses affected by the project are receiving hand-delivered notices, and ongoing updates will be posted through the municipality’s online engagement page.
The project was first discussed publicly in 2023 during a community information session and public survey process before being included in the municipality’s 2026 budget.
Officials say the upgrades are intended to support long-term growth and improve infrastructure reliability in the area.
