Residents across Northumberland County are being encouraged to support local businesses this spring through a new community campaign.
The initiative invites residents to submit a shout-out for their favourite locally grown business for a chance to win a $500 gift basket filled with products sourced from across the county.
Organizers say the campaign will also create a curated map of local recommendations, highlighting businesses that make Northumberland unique. The final map will be shared on social media, giving residents and visitors an easy way to explore local options.
The campaign is part of the broader Prosper In Northumberland initiative, a collaboration between local municipalities, business associations, media, and business owners aimed at strengthening the local economy.
As part of the process, residents can also take a pledge to shop local by committing to redirect a portion of their regular spending toward businesses within Northumberland County.
Organizers say the pledge does not require additional spending, but instead encourages people to make small changes, such as choosing local options instead of shopping online or outside the community.
They add that supporting local businesses helps create jobs, strengthens the economy, and contributes to community initiatives, charities, and events across the region.
Residents throughout the county can submit their shout-outs and enter the contest by visiting Northumberland.ca, and learn more about the pledge at BuyNorthumberland.ca.
