Northumberland-Clarke MP Philip Lawrence is raising concerns about the formation of the federal Liberal government’s majority, while also outlining priorities he says are critical for residents in the riding.
Lawrence said the shift from a minority government to a majority raises questions about accountability and representation.
He argues the change does not reflect the outcome of the last general election and suggests Canadians should be asking questions about how that majority was achieved.
At the same time, Lawrence says housing affordability remains a key issue locally and across the country.
He says increasing housing supply and reducing barriers for builders would help more Canadians access homeownership.
Lawrence also pointed to ongoing cost of living pressures, particularly when it comes to fuel and food.
He says reducing taxes on gasoline would lower costs on all shipped goods including food and that could help ease financial strain for households, noting that transportation costs affect nearly every product Canadians purchase.
Lawrence added he is willing to work with any government initiative that improves affordability for residents in Northumberland-Clarke, while continuing to push for policies that lower costs and support economic growth.
