The Town of Cobourg is inviting local youth to take part in the 2026 municipal election process through two creative contests designed to promote civic engagement.
The “I Voted” sticker contest encourages students from junior kindergarten to Grade 12 to submit original designs that could be used during the upcoming election. Winning entries will be featured on the Town’s election website and made available at voter help centres. All submissions will also be showcased in an exhibition at the Art Gallery of Northumberland.
Sticker contest entries must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. on July 31.
The Town is also launching the “My Ideal Town” essay contest, inviting youth aged 17 and under to submit a 350-word essay outlining their vision for the future of Cobourg. Participants are encouraged to explore ideas related to programs, services, and community features.
Essay submissions are due by 8 p.m. on October 26. Following the deadline, entries will be compiled and presented to the newly elected council for the 2026 to 2030 term.
One participant will be selected to read their essay at the inaugural council meeting. All youth who submit an entry will be invited to attend the meeting and connect with members of council.
Town officials say the contests are intended to help young people learn about the democratic process while contributing their ideas and creativity to the community.
