Cobourg police say a reported threat at C.R. Gummow Public School has been cleared, marking the second suspected swatting incident in the community in two days.
According to Cobourg police, officers responded to the school shortly after 11:30 a.m. following a report of a threat involving a weapon. The school was placed in lockdown while officers conducted a search of the building.
Police say no weapon was located and no injuries were reported. The lockdown has since been lifted.
Officials say students and staff remained safe throughout the incident. Following the search, the school moved to a shelter in place for the remainder of the day, with a police presence maintained on site. Parents and guardians were also given the option to pick up students before regular dismissal.
Investigators believe the incident is another case of swatting, a criminal act involving false reports designed to trigger a large emergency response. Police say this latest call is believed to be linked to a similar incident reported the previous day at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School.
Police have also indicated the call originated from an overseas phone number.
Cobourg police say swatting incidents divert emergency resources and pose unnecessary risks to both responders and the public.
The investigation remains ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
