A Trent Lakes resident is facing charges after a Peterborough/Northumberland community street crime unit seizure involving 278 grams of suspected cocaine, 53 firearms and additional items, says OPP.
According to OPP, charges were laid after the seizure following a warrant executed in the Municipality of Trent Lakes area.
Police said their probe started in April in relation to an individual suspected of being in possession of firearms when they were prohibited from possessing any.
The street crime unit executed the warrant on April 8 in the Bessie Avenue area and “made contact with the accused who was immediately placed under arrest.”
Police said cocaine was allegedly found in the individual’s possession, and then after entering the building to execute the warrant, OPP found one firearm stored in a careless manner.
“Officers furthered their search, locating 52 other long rifles, along with various assorted ammunition and a further quantity of cocaine,” reported Peterborough County OPP.
Police also said the search turned up ammunition reloader devices, digital scales, cellphones and more than $5,000 cash.
As a result of the probe, a 39-year-old Trent Lakes resident was charged with three counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order, careless storage of firearms, weapon, prohibited device or ammunition, possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine, and possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime over $5,000.
None of these charges have been proven in court.
The accused was held for bail to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough, reported OPP, in a release issued on Friday, April 10.
