School transportation cancellations in Northumberland County have reached a new high, with 15 inclement weather days recorded so far in the 2025-26 school year.
The total surpasses the previous peak of 14 days set in 2024-25, marking the highest number of weather-related cancellations for any STSCO region in the past eight school years.
Historically, Northumberland’s numbers have mirrored nearby regions, with nine cancellations in 2018-19, followed by a dip to just two in 2020-21. However, totals have climbed in recent years, including eight days in 2022-23 and five in 2023-24, before spiking over the past two winters.
This school year, Northumberland has also seen several region-specific cancellations, particularly in January, contributing to the higher overall total compared to neighbouring Peterborough and Clarington, which reported 11 and 10 days respectively.
