Cobourg police say multiple individuals are facing charges following a series of unrelated incidents over the weekend, including assault, organized retail theft, drug offences, and intimate partner violence.
Police were first called to a residential building on King Street East around 9:30 p.m. on March 20 for a report of an unwanted person. Officers say two individuals who did not reside in the building were asked to leave, leading to a verbal dispute where one person allegedly attempted to strike another. No injuries were reported. A 37 year old Cobourg woman was arrested and charged with assault and held in custody pending a bail hearing.
In a separate incident, police say officers on patrol observed a woman allegedly breaching probation and release conditions on March 21. During the arrest, officers say they located a quantity of crack cocaine. She faces additional charges including failing to comply with a release order, three counts of failing to comply with probation, and possession of a Schedule 1 substance. She was held for a bail hearing and later released.
On March 22, police responded to a shoplifting in progress at a business on Elgin Street West. Staff reported three suspects leaving with a shopping cart full of merchandise. Police say officers located the vehicle and allegedly found a large quantity of stolen grocery items, along with licence plates linked to organized retail crime incidents in other jurisdictions. A 32 year old Toronto woman, a 21 year old Scarborough woman, and a 14 year old youth are facing charges including theft under $5,000 and possession of property obtained by crime.
In a separate investigation the same day, police say officers responded to a domestic disturbance and say they uncovered additional alleged incidents of violence. A 28 year old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with assault, assault causing bodily harm, sexual assault, and intimidation. He was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody.
