The Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board says students are showing measurable gains in math achievement, as trustees received an update on the board’s Math Achievement Action Plan during their March 24 meeting.
The plan targets Grade 3 and 6 students in 19 elementary schools, along with Grade 9 students in four secondary schools, using focused supports, updated learning strategies and improved data tracking.
According to the board, recent results show progress across multiple grade levels. Grade 6 priority schools have reduced achievement gaps by 75 per cent compared to baseline provincial data, alongside a 12.3 per cent increase in students achieving at or above the provincial standard. Grade 9 priority schools also reported a 12.4 per cent increase in students meeting that benchmark over the past year.
Trustees also approved a trustee apportionment model for the next board term beginning in November 2026.
Under the model, Northumberland municipalities including Cobourg, Port Hope, Hamilton Township, Alnwick Haldimand and Trent Hills will be represented by two trustees. Other areas across the district will be assigned representation based on population and geographic considerations.
The board says the model reflects principles of representation by population while maintaining local voices at the table.
In other decisions, trustees approved revisions to board policies and supported sending a letter to the Minister of Education regarding proposed legislation.
The board says the Math Achievement Action Plan will continue, with a focus on expanding successful strategies to support student learning across the district.
