Residents across Northumberland could see significant rainfall beginning Tuesday night as a series of weather systems move through the region.
Forecasters say between 20 and 40 millimetres of rain is possible through Wednesday, with locally higher totals in areas that experience thunderstorms.
The rainfall is expected to affect most of southern Ontario and comes at a time when the ground in many areas remains saturated or frozen, limiting its ability to absorb additional moisture.
Environment officials warn that heavy downpours could lead to water pooling on roads, flash flooding, and localized flooding in low-lying areas.
Drivers are being urged to use caution if conditions deteriorate, particularly during periods of heavier rain when visibility and road conditions could worsen quickly.
The rainfall is associated with a series of low-pressure systems expected to track across the region over a short period of time, increasing the potential for steady precipitation and occasional heavier bursts.
