Northumberland OPP says a youth has been charged after investigating a reported threat involving a local secondary school.
Confirmation of the charge officially came Friday, Feb. 13, 2026, with police saying the accused charged with uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm.
However, no new additional information surrounding the alleged incident at ENSS was released by police Friday.
As previously reported, on Thursday, Feb. 12, 2025, shortly before 9 a.m., OPP said officers received information regarding a potential threat to the safety of the school.
Police didn’t identify the school specifically; however, East Northumberland Secondary School (ENSS) Principal James Patenall sent out a letter to families Thursday, which the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board provided a copy of via email to MBC.
Yesterday, police said they initially confirmed that the individual associated with the threat wasn’t present at the school and therefore, a hold and secure wasn’t required.
Northumberland OPP said there was no immediate risk to the safety of students or staff – a message echoed by the school Thursday.
Yesterday, police said a suspect was identified, and the OPP’s crime unit was engaged to help with the ongoing investigation.
No additional information was released by police Friday.
