Residents across west Northumberland can expect municipal closures on Family Day, but also a packed schedule of winter activities.
Brighton municipal offices will be closed Monday, reopening Tuesday. Families can take advantage of two free sponsored skates at King Edward Park Arena, one in the morning and another in the afternoon. The town is also encouraging people to enjoy outdoor destinations including Presqu’ile Provincial Park, Proctor Park and the Goodrich Loomis Conservation Area, along with shopping and dining in the downtown. Outdoor skating is available at Codrington.
In Cobourg, offices at Victoria Hall and the public library are closed. The building itself opens for limited public hours and transit operates normally. The community centre is open, but seniors programming is cancelled.
Weekend events in Cobourg begin with late night shopping downtown and continue through Saturday with the Love Locks activity, Lions events and license free fishing province wide. Sunday features the Les AMIS concert.
Family Day Monday includes major programming at Rotary Harbourfront Park with Experience Cobourg, a free movie at Rainbow Cinemas, YMCA activities, art sessions at the Art Gallery of Northumberland and a curling open house. Also, YMCA Northumberland is offering complimentary access to all community members this Family Day at all locations; Cobourg, Campbellford & Brighton.
In Port Hope, administrative buildings, the library, transit and the transfer station are closed. The Town Park Recreation Centre will host a Family Fun Day, while the Jack Burger Sports Complex offers public swimming. Hibernate Festival is running all weekend as well with live music performances and artistic programming available throughout the weekend.
Residents can find complete event details through their municipal websites.
