The Northumberland Central Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Cobourg have named Jane Sawyer of Shelter Valley Pinesnes Golf Club as the recipient of the 2026 James Crossen Lifetime Achievement Award.
The honour recognizes individuals who have made significant, long term contributions to the regional business community. The award is named after James Crossen, founder of Cobourg Car Works and one of the town’s earliest entrepreneurs.
According to organizers, Sawyer has played a central role in shaping Shelter Valley Pines into a major tourism and economic driver for Northumberland County. Working alongside her late husband Steve, the original nine hole golf course evolved through reinvestment and expansion into the 18 hole facility operating today.
Recent growth at Shelter Valley Park has also increased access to weekend stays, further strengthening the area’s appeal to visitors.
Business award officials say the recognition highlights leadership, innovation and dedication that have supported local employment and community vitality over many years.
The presentation will take place March 27 during the annual Business Achievement Awards at the Best Western PLUS Cobourg Inn and Convention Centre. The event will feature Scott McCracken as master of ceremonies.
Tickets for the evening are available through the Northumberland Central Chamber of Commerce, with sponsorship opportunities also still open.
