The Municipality of Port Hope is advising residents and business owners that overnight snow removal will take place in the downtown core beginning tonight, Thursday, January 29, and continuing into Friday morning.
Municipal road crews are scheduled to work overnight, with operations expected to be completed by about 7 a.m. Friday.
According to the municipality, the overnight schedule is intended to provide crews with full access to downtown roadways while traffic is lighter and fewer vehicles are parked on the street. This allows snow removal equipment to operate more efficiently and safely.
Streets scheduled for overnight plowing include Ontario Street from north of Maitland Street to Walton Street, Walton Street from Pine Street to Mill Street North, John Street from Walton Street to Dorset Street West, and Queen Street from Walton Street to Augusta Street.
Municipal officials note that residents and nearby businesses may hear equipment operating overnight and apologize in advance for the inconvenience. Crews say they will work to keep noise levels as low as possible while completing the work.
Drivers are reminded that parking is not permitted on downtown streets between 2 a.m. and 7 a.m., even when snow removal is not underway. Vehicles left on the street during those hours can interfere with clearing operations and may be subject to enforcement.
Residents are encouraged to use off street parking options where available during the overnight period.
