After 13 years in Port Hope, the founding family behind Olympus Burger has announced they are stepping away from the restaurant, marking the end of an era for one of the community’s most recognizable local businesses.
In a message shared on the restaurant’s Facebook page, the Kallonakis family reflected on years of early mornings, late nights and sacrifices that helped turn Olympus Burger into a destination for residents and visitors alike. Since opening, the restaurant built a reputation for fresh, homemade burgers, creative Greek inspired menu items and strong community involvement.
Olympus Burger also brought national attention to Port Hope through appearances on Food Network Canada’s You Gotta Eat Here, as well as features on Citytv’s Breakfast Television, helping showcase the town to a wider audience. The restaurant earned numerous local awards over the years and was frequently involved in charity fundraisers, team sponsorships and community initiatives.
The family says the decision to step back was difficult but necessary as they look to regain balance after more than a decade of operating the business. While ownership is changing, they expressed hope that new management will maintain the standards and values that defined Olympus Burger.
Although they are stepping away from day to day operations, the Kallonakis family says their connection to Port Hope remains strong and they plan to continue supporting the community in future endeavors.
