Port Hope Police have charged a youth after a vehicle was stolen from a local recreation centre on January 21. The car, left unlocked, contained a spare key and two cellphones.
Using a tracked phone, police say they located the vehicle at a nearby business. During an attempted stop, the suspect allegedly tried to flee, damaging property before being apprehended.
The youth faces charges of theft of a motor vehicle and mischief to property and has been released on an Undertaking with conditions.
Port Hope Police are reminding residents to always lock vehicles and remove valuables, including spare keys, to prevent theft. Officers emphasize that these simple precautions help protect personal property and keep the community safe.
