The Town of Cobourg has declared both a Significant Weather Event and a Snow Event as severe winter conditions hit the area.
Residents are being urged to avoid non-essential travel and stay off roads and sidewalks while municipal crews focus on keeping emergency routes and high-traffic roads clear. Collector streets and bus routes will be addressed next, followed by residential streets once conditions allow.
Under the Snow Event, no parking is permitted on municipal roads for 24 hours. Vehicles parked on roadways may be ticketed or towed, though municipal lots are available to avoid penalties.
For those needing shelter from the extreme cold, Cobourg has temporary warming options. Victoria Hall at 55 King Street West is open Sunday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and the Cobourg Community Centre at 750 D’Arcy Street is open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., with early morning access through the east-side entrance by the soccer fields.
Northumberland County’s Winter Warming Room at 555 Courthouse Road is operating continuously until Monday, January 26 at 8 a.m., providing a safe place with washrooms, seating, and light refreshments. Residents are reminded to plan travel carefully, allow extra time, and stay informed as crews work to maintain road safety during this storm.
