The preliminary tally is in for East Region OPP’s Festive RIDE campaign, and about 150 people were charged with impaired driving.
The Festive RIDE campaign launched Nov. 20 and concluded on Jan. 1, targeting those who got behind the wheel impaired by alcohol and/or drugs.
Preliminary results just released indicate more than 1,600 RIDE checks were conducted by officers across Eastern Ontario.
In addition to future court dates, all of the accused had their licences suspended for 90 days and vehicles were impounded for seven days.
In addition to those 150 people charged, officers also said 28 licence suspensions were issued for drivers found in the warning range after roadside sobriety tests.
As the campaign wraps up, police are also reminding citizens that new provincial regulations, which include lengthier licence suspensions and other measures aimed at reducing impaired driving, have come into effect as of Jan. 1, 2026. People can learn more online.
While the holiday RIDE campaign has wrapped, RIDE programs do continue year-round.
OPP continues to encourage citizens to report suspected impaired driving by calling 911.
