The Town of Cobourg has announced an Emergency Meeting of Council for Friday, December 12, 2025 at 4 p.m., called under the Town of Cobourg Procedural By-law.
The Legislative Services Division issued the notice Wednesday, stating that the session is required to address urgent matters.
A portion of the meeting will take place in Closed Session under Section 239(2)(f) of the Municipal Act, 2001. This provision allows Council to receive legal advice that is subject to solicitor-client privilege, and while the meeting will be livestreamed at cobourg.ca/escribe, the public will see a Closed Session screen during in-camera discussions.
Council will also consider a motion brought forward by Cobourg Mayor Lucas Cleveland. The Mayor is requesting full Council support to allow people to sleep in the community’s warming room, a move aimed at addressing immediate shelter needs as colder weather sets in. Details of the motion have not yet been released publicly, and the meeting is expected to draw significant interest from residents and advocacy groups.
The public may attend the open portion of the meeting online when the Emergency Council session begins Friday afternoon.
