The Alnwick/Haldimand Fire Department is receiving new support for firefighter training thanks to a grant from Enbridge Gas Ontario, provided through the Safe Community Project Assist program.
The initiative, administered in partnership with the Fire Marshal’s Public Fire Safety Council (FMPFSC), helps volunteer and composite fire departments obtain enhanced instructional materials and vital training supports.
Enbridge Gas has invested $125,000 in the program this year, shared among 25 fire services in communities where the company operates. Since its creation in 2012, Safe Community Project Assist has issued 394 training-related grants to fire departments across the province.
The Alnwick/Haldimand Fire Department serves the township and the Alderville First Nation community, operating three fire stations located in Grafton, Centreton and Roseneath. The department is staffed by part-time firefighters who are on call 24 hours a day and maintain NFPA certification through continuous skills development and emergency response training.
The Ontario Fire Marshal and FMPFSC Chair Jon Pegg says the funding ensures departments have access to the right teaching tools to keep both firefighters and residents safe, noting that daily training is essential to modern emergency readiness.
Enbridge Gas says the support reflects its longstanding commitment to safety and community engagement. The company delivers natural gas service to more than 4 million customers and maintains storage and transmission facilities across Ontario.
