The Town of Cobourg says its municipal flags will be at half-mast today (Saturday, Dec. 6) in observance of the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
Today marks 36 years since the murder of 14 young women at Polytechnique Montréal on Dec. 6, 1989, which ultimately led to the designation of Dec. 6 as the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
Advocates say it’s a time to remember those who have experienced gender-based violence and those whose lives have been lost, while also committing to action.
On Saturday, residents are encouraged to wear a white ribbon to honor victims and echo the call for an end to gender-based violence.
