Thanks to the quick action of Cramahe and Brighton firefighters, neighbours and the family, a beloved family pet is back on the road to recovery after falling through the ice at Little Lake Thursday (Dec. 4.)
After Cramahe Fire Department responded to the urgent call for help and arrived on scene, crews said they quickly recognized the dangerous conditions and initiated an ice water rescue and mutual aid request from neighbours Brighton Fire and Rescue.
And teamwork ended up making the difference.
“Thanks to the quick thinking of neighbours and family, the co-ordinated efforts of our firefighters and the invaluable support of our neighbouring fire department, the dog was safely brought back to shore,” said the department.
“Moose” the dog spent the day at the vet but is now reportedly back safe at home with his family.
First-responders continue to urge residents to exercise caution around frozen ponds, rivers and lakes and keep pets and loved ones away as ice conditions can be unpredictable and change quickly.
