A former Ontario Grade 8 teacher has received a four-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to multiple sex-related offences involving explicit digital communication and material exchanged with minors.
According to CBC News, the misconduct took place in 2023 through social media messaging with boys aged 14 and 15, with court submissions indicating the activity escalated over time.
Kelly-Anne Jennings stood in a Kawartha Lakes courtroom on November 27, 2025, as the judge delivered the sentence. The court ruled that the 41-year-old will be placed on the national sex offender registry and must provide a DNA sample as part of the sentencing conditions.
A publication ban remains in effect to protect the identities of the victims and prevent any mention of identifying details, including the name or location of the school where Jennings worked. Court documents indicated the harm extended beyond the digital exchanges, affecting the students’ emotional well-being, daily functioning, and sense of personal security.
Jennings had been on unpaid leave since the allegations first came to light in August 2024. According to the CBC, the Peterborough Victoria Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board confirmed that her employment was formally terminated earlier in November. The CBC’s report also notes that the board acknowledged the ongoing impact on affected school communities and expressed hope that the November 27 sentencing will support healing, accountability, and closure for those involved.
