Cobourg police say two Cobourg residents are facing multiple drug-trafficking charges after officers executed Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrants at two locations linked to an ongoing investigation in the town.
Police say the warrants were carried out on November 13 and 14 at a home on Margaret Street and at a unit inside 310 Division Street, which operates as the county’s shelter services hub, supporting vulnerable residents. Members of the Cobourg Police Service and Port Hope Police Service assisted in the operation.
As a result of the investigation, police say 39-year-old Cory Keers and 35-year-old Llewellyn Dowle were arrested. Both are charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking fentanyl, cocaine and methamphetamine, along with possession of proceeds of crime under $5,000 and production of fentanyl. Police allege Keers also possessed morphine, oxycodone and psilocybin for the purpose of trafficking.
Officers report seizing 472 grams of fentanyl, 30 grams of cocaine, 46 grams of crystal methamphetamine and additional quantities of morphine, oxycodone and psilocybin. Police say cash, multiple cellphones, and materials used for packaging and cooking drugs were also recovered. The estimated street value of the seized substances is approximately $320,000.
Police initially did not specify how much of the allegedly seized material came from each address. Following an inquiry by MBC Media, the Cobourg Police Service stated via email to MBC: “…the following were located at 310 Division: Morphine, Oxycocet pills and Psilocybin (magic mushrooms). The remainder was located at the residence on Margaret.“
MBC Media also reached out to Northumberland county for comment, who provided this response via email:
“Over November 13th and 14th, police executed search warrants in the community including at a transitional housing unit located at 310 Division Street. Transitional housing units in this facility are separate from homeless shelter services, with units governed by an occupancy agreement. Every occupant signs a ‘Crime-Free Addendum’ as part of this agreement. The County awaits further information as this matter moves through the justice system.”
Police say both Keers and Dowle were held in custody for bail hearings.
