The West Northumberland Curling Club is bringing the opportunity to watch free, high-calibre junior sport to Northumberland County this weekend as the U18 Nautilus Slam comes to Cobourg from November 14 to 16.
The event marks the final stop on the 2025 Junior Slam Series calendar and gives local spectators the chance to watch some of the best U18 men’s and women’s teams from across province compete at an elite level.
WNCC Board member Lisa Collins tells us more.
After a strong debut last year, the Nautilus Slam has quickly become a highlight on the junior competitive circuit. The WNCC’s arena-style format, ice-level seating, and high-performance playing conditions make it an ideal venue for the event and one of the few places in the region where residents can see this calibre of curling up close.
Collins tells us what’s at stake for the competitors.
According to Collins, teams are set to battle through round-robin play to the championship finals on Sunday.
The field will include men’s and women’s teams, each battling for valuable positioning ahead of major qualifiers and championships. The weekend will feature a round robin, followed by championship and consolation finals on Sunday. All teams are guaranteed four games, ensuring full-intensity action from start to finish.
The Nautilus Slam follows the Junior Slam Series’ competitive protocol, including structured pre-game practices, last-stone-draw procedures, and full coach access. The event is also fully aligned with Curling Ontario’s Trillium Team Ranking System, giving teams a meaningful late-season opportunity to climb the rankings before provincial playdowns.
Spectators are encouraged to bring warm clothes and are asked to bring clean, indoor shoes. Guests are also welcome to enjoy the lounge area as well as ice-level seating.
With top junior curlers on the ice and a premier local venue hosting them, the Nautilus Slam offers a rare and exciting weekend of sport in the heart of Northumberland County.
