The Northumberland Humane Society (NHS) is celebrating another successful year of partnership with Pet Valu and Paulmac’s Pets, raising nearly $18,000 in 2025 alone.
The long-running collaboration between NHS and local store owners Dale and Joanne Orleck – who operate Pet Valu and Paulmac’s Pets locations in Cobourg, Port Hope, and Campbellford – has now generated $120,000 over the past five years to support animals in need across Northumberland County.
Through donation drives, community events, and in-store fundraising campaigns, the Orlecks and their dedicated teams have helped connect generous customers with the Humane Society’s mission.
“This wasn’t really us,” said Joanne Orleck, co-owner of Pet Valu and Paulmac’s Pets. “This was our customers doing it one dollar at a time. It’s the community – we could not do it without them.”
NHS Board Chair Susan Edwards expressed gratitude for the ongoing support, noting the difference the partnership has made in local animal welfare. “The continued support from Pet Valu and Paulmac’s Pets, and the generosity of the community, are extraordinary,” she said. “This partnership has allowed us to save and improve the lives of countless animals, and we couldn’t do this work without them.”
Founded in 1966, the Northumberland Humane Society is a non-profit, charitable organization that relies on community donations and partnerships like this one to care for animals throughout the region.
