The Municipality of Port Hope will begin sanitary sewer flushing and CCTV camera inspections on Monday, Oct. 27, 2025, with work expected to continue through the end of November.
The maintenance program involves using high-pressure vactor trucks to remove silt, debris, and tree roots from the sanitary sewer system. This annual work helps prevent blockages, improves system performance, and extends the life of local infrastructure.
Flushing and inspections will take place in two phases this fall:
Quadrant 3 North (Oct. 27 to Nov. 7): East of the Ganaraska River, between Molson Street, Rose Glen Road, and Ward Street.
Quadrant 3 South (Nov. 10 to 21): East of the Ganaraska River, between Ward Street, Rose Glen Road, and Lake Ontario.
Minor traffic disruptions are expected, and for safety reasons, some work may occur at night to reduce impacts in high-traffic areas.
Residents in the affected areas are encouraged to fill all floor drains and plumbing traps with water and keep toilet seats closed to help prevent “blowback” – a discharge of air or water that can occur during the flushing process. Anyone experiencing blowback should contact Environmental Services immediately at 905-885-8760 or by email.
Crews will also be conducting CCTV camera inspections to assess pipe conditions and guide future maintenance priorities. Municipal staff may use cell phones for data entry and GIS mapping during this process.
